The National Arts Festival has long been a highlight on South Africa’s cultural calendar. It’s a time for artists and visitors to gather, engage and celebrate. Showcasing work across a range of disciplines, this is a festival that encourages range, versatility and innovation.
For the last two unprecedented years we have our generous sponsors to thank for keeping the spirit of the National Arts Festival alive, affording us the privileged to create extra ordinary works that have reflected the paradigm shift of the artistic landscape not only in South Africa but around the world. Our creative industries have felt the worst of the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic and it is with great pleasure that we welcome our patrons back to salute the courage and perseverance of the South African arts community.
The National Arts Festival returns to its home in Makhanda after a two year gap! 2022 includes everything that has made the festival a highlight of the South African cultural calendar.
It has been sometime since we gathered in this way, and as everyone knows, some things have had to change. With that in mind, here are a few pointers for NAF2022.
We don’t have a vaccine mandate, but masks must be worn at all venues.
We are operating at 50% capacity, so shows will sell out quicker than usual. If there’s a show you absolutely must attend, be sure to book early.
There is no printed programme this year. All information about the shows is on our website.
Bookings can be done through the website. You will need to log in or register your account before purchases can be finalised.
Water continues to be a challenge in Makhanda. Please use it with care and speak to your accommodation provider about what they have in place to manage water on their premises.
