The Easing of Restriction – Latest Safety Protocols for Covid-19

Although restrictions are easing, it’s still vitally important to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols.

The South African tourism and hospitality industry has developed comprehensive protocols for the operation of all types of tourism businesses and facilities in times of the COVID-19 pandemic. The protocols address all the acknowledged risk areas related to travel and tourism.  All employers and individuals are encouraged to take personal responsibility and play an active role in creating and maintaining clean and healthy workplaces and environments.

TBCSA says that they are confident that these extensive protocols will enable the travel, tourism, hospitality and related industries to operate safely as COVID-19 restrictions are eased.

“We are not a mass tourism destination. South Africa is known for its space. You can drive for hours without seeing a single soul. We are geared for it,” TBCSA’s Chair Blacky Komani said.

The latest edition of the TBCSA protocols, which has been formally endorsed by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), is available for download at https://bit.ly/2Oc8s1Q.

TBCSA has also developed a free Travel Safe – Eat Safe certification programme, which encompasses a centralised registration system and app as well as comprehensive training for businesses and staff.

The ECPTA urges all tourism product owners to download the protocols and to continue implementing them wholeheartedly. The better we adhere to safety protocols, the better the chances are that life will return to normal.
