The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) took part in the 2024 Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism Awards, an event that celebrated the best in the region’s tourism industry. Established in 2019 as an extension of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Events Awards, the Tourism Awards have since expanded to recognize achievements across all sectors of tourism and hospitality.
This year’s awards did not only honour outstanding accomplishments but also aimed to further elevate Nelson Mandela Bay as a premier tourist destination. The event brought attention to the dedication, creativity, and passion of individuals and businesses that have worked tirelessly to position the region as a standout attraction for visitors.
The awards recognized excellence in several categories, with Pabala Private Nature Reserve winning top honours in the Accommodation category for its exceptional service and tranquil guest experience. The Boma claimed the prize for best Attraction & Experiences, celebrated for its ability to showcase the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness.
Petronella Craft Foods and Catering earned recognition in the Catering category for its inventive menus and meticulous attention to detail, while Raggy Charters was applauded in the Cultural, Conservation & Sustainability category for its conservation efforts and marine-based experiences.
Tour guide Lizl Nieuwoudt was awarded for her expertise in guiding visitors through Nelson Mandela Bay, bringing the region’s landscapes and heritage to life. Awehness Travel stood out in the Transportation & Tours category for its unique, engaging tours of the area.
The Up & Coming award went to Devson T Luzane, whose innovation and fresh perspective have made him a rising star in the tourism industry. Lastly, Jonker Fourie, known as Firefly, the Travel Guy, was recognized for his photography and videography, capturing the region’s essence and sharing it through captivating visual stories.
For the Agency, the event served as a reflection of the collective progress made within Nelson Mandela Bay’s tourism sector. The awards underscored the agency’s commitment to promoting the Eastern Cape’s natural and cultural attractions while supporting sustainable and innovative tourism.
