TOURISM, FASHION, ARTS, MUSIC ALL AT ISINGQISETHU

The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA), in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture, proudly hosted the annual Isingqisethu Cultural Festival in Port St. Johns (PSJ) on 7 December 2024. This vibrant celebration brought together fashion, arts, culture, music, and tourism in an unforgettable showcase of the Eastern Cape’s rich offerings.

The festival kicked off with a media tour designed to immerse journalists in the unique attractions of the Wild Coast region, enticing locals to explore their own backyard. The itinerary included kayaking adventures in Bololo, cultural experiences, and a visit to the breathtaking Waterfall Bluff. Journalists also enjoyed a divine lunch at the award-winning Ncumisa’s Homestay in Noqhekwana Village, PSJ. Renowned for its fresh seafood sourced directly from the ocean and traditional dishes prepared with ingredients from an organic garden, Ncumisa’s Homestay provided an authentic taste of Wild Coast hospitality.

ECPTA Destination Manager, Fezeka Mlungu, underscored the importance of promoting tourism within black communities, breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes.
“Tourism is important in black communities because we grew up thinking it was only for rich people,” Mlungu stated. “In the province, particularly in the PSJ area, there’s so much to offer, from wildlife at Silaka Nature Reserve to activities like kayaking and canoeing, as well as homestays with exceptional food and warm hospitality. This shows that tourism is accessible and meant for everyone.”

The Isingqisethu Cultural Festival not only celebrated the diverse talents and traditions of the Eastern Cape but also highlighted its potential as a premier tourism destination. By inviting journalists to experience the region firsthand, the event successfully showcased the Wild Coast’s hidden gems and inspired both local and international visitors to discover its wonders.
