Bird Haven Guest House

Located in Burgersdorp

The BIRD HAVEN GUEST HOUSE building is of the Cape Dutch style, built in 1902 as a boarding school for boys. It is situated on a four hectares stand just outside the Eastern Cape town of BURGERSDORP which was established in 1846 to serve the thriving farming community of the time. We are situated conveniently halfway between Cape Town and Johannesburg, between Cape Town and Durban, halfway between Bloemfontein and East London and also between Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth. Nearby places of interest include half an hour from the Orange River where you cross over into the Orange Free State, less than an hour from the Gariep Dam and three hours from the historic town of Graaff-Reinet. Nearer to home there are hiking trails, the Language Monument(1893), an Anglo-Boer War graveyard, the Museum complex, the first Reformed Theological Seminary(1869) later relocated to Potchefstroom, two block houses from the Anglo-Boer war, fossils, Bushman paintings and an eighteen tee, nine hole golf course with clubhouse and bar. We offer five en-suite bedrooms with DSTV. English or continental breakfast and all other meals available on request, coffee and tea facilities, a fully licensed bar, braai(barbecue) facilities, a wide farm style veranda for lazy, relaxing evenings in a tranquil, rural Karoo atmosphere. The rich cultural inheritance which includes nine national monuments, makes a visit to Burgersdorp worth your while.
