Fossil Tours – The rocks of Nieu Bethesda are part of the
Karoo Supergroup, which tell the story of life from 285
million to 180 million years ago. Enter a world without the
plants and animals we know today. A time when there were no
flowers or grasses, no mammals and no birds. Humans would
only arrive on the scene around 250 million years later. At this
time the mammal ancestors (or therapsids) ruled the Earth.
Rock Art Tours – We will guide you to one of the shelters that
is an easy walk for all ages. Here we will tell you all about the
rock art while pointing them out to you as well as a little of
their culture and beliefs. Included in the tour we will show you
the engravings made by the young farmer’s son that hid in the
shelter for 3 months during the Anglo Boer War. The Bushman
engravings can be viewed when on the fossil walk.
