Hidden Valley Hiking Trail Alexandria Where is it The Hidden Valley Hiking Trail is situated just outside Alexandria in the Eastern Cape. The trail takes you through the different environments grassland, riverine and thornveld. How long is the trail This circular 2 day overnight trail covers 16km on the 1st day and 9km on the 2nd day. Starting and finishing just outside the town. Parking is provided. Accommodation. Accommodation is in a permanent hikers tent at Phumla Bush Lodge. The tents sleeps 35, has hot water showers, toilets and firewood is provided. Main attractions Birds its a birders paradise. Along the streams, dams and dense bush you may see Fish Eagle, Knysna Loerie, a variety of ducks and plenty of other birds. On the grasslands you will come into close contact with the Secretary Birds. Mammals Waterbuck, Kudu, Bushbuck, Duiker, Bushpig Fish The dam at the overnight tent has plenty of bass (catch and release) Visitors are welcome to make use of the facilities at the dam, incl the foefie-slide. General information It is a malaria free area. Direction is given by means of yellow markers. Beverages and bottled water are sold at the lodge. Cell phone reception limited to high lying areas. No firearms. No pets. Fires may only be made at the overnight tent where the necessary facilities exist and must be extinguished before going to sleep and at departure. For a fee of R10 pp we will transport your luggage to the overnight hut at the start of your hike and back again on the second day. Cost R120 per person for the 2 day trail. R60 per child. Special rates for school groups How to get there. From Port Elizabeth take the N2 towards Grahamstown, turn off onto the R72 50km from PE. Travel a further 50km to Alexandria. In the main road, turn left opposite Standard Bank and travel until you pass the Chicory factory and turn L onto gravel road, parking at end of road.
