The Old Mill inn was originally built in 1895 as a flour mill for the district of Barkly East. The building has since been remodeled to create a warm and comfortable inn while retaining the old Victorian atmosphere. Barkly East is situated centrally to some of the best Trout fishing rivers in South Africa. It is also a haven for bird watchers who come to marvel at the breathtaking scenery and abundant and varied bird life. The small towns of Rhodes, Lady Grey and Barkly East are ringed by mountains and the numerous historic and scenic sites of the Maloti route and the Southern Drakensburg. When visiting the area, places of interest, include, Rock Art, Mountain scenery, the unique town of Rhodes, and SAs premier Ski resort Tiffendel. Scenic drives, massive rock formations and beautiful rivers. A trip over Lundeans Nek, and Naudes Nek come highly recommended, and are truly spectacular and stepped in History, of old wars, historic sites, Rock Art and abundant bird life. All the rivers have Trout and Yellow Fish, and fishing permits are avail. During Winter months, Mountain Rebok and Val Rebok, come down to Feed in the Valleys, and watch out for the numerous tortoises crossing our roads. Baboons are also frequent visitors to the meadows. Then of course the Sheep. Weather fully sheared or the numerous Twins you will see in early summer, dont forget they normally have right of way.
