Note Lubanzi is not a listed village so it falls under Coffee Bay, we are a 16km hike south. Now this is the Wild Coast, so we keep it simple and rural. Almost all showers are solar heated, which means hot showers only during the day. In the main house there is a rocket shower, a parafin heated tube that roars like a rocket and provides hot water. Our tap water comes from a nearby spring, and the drinking water comes directly from the sky. We have an organic garden where we grow vegetables all year round. Help to pick or dig up your delicious dinner or cook your own food in the fully equipped self-catering kitchen. At night get a fire going in the braai place and sit on the veranda chatting in the light of parafin lanterns. Activities Activities includes the word active which is not everyones choice – after all, this is the perfect place to just relax and hang out and let all stress drain away. The beach is just down the hill and sheltered by cliffs, so grab your towel and have a snooze in the sand – or would you prefer the hammock on the veranda If you DO feel active, take a stroll around, explore the other beaches or the nearby river estuary (all within easy walking distance), go swimming or snorkelling or fishing, walk to the next shebeen (local tavern) to drink beer and chat with the locals, collect shells on the beach … Or bring your mountain bike and conquer the hectic 4×4 tracks … Fishing Lubanzi is within walking distance from the most famous fishing spot of the area, called Umbolompo point. You can basically deep sea fish straight off the rocks Please only go fishing if you have a valid permit. Pull out shad, yellow tale, rock cod, mussle cracker or crayfish, and make sure to have a good stand or the fish will pull you in Hiking and Tours Let our local guide take you around the village, to explore the river estuary and to meet locals, have a chat or try some Xhosa food. Prince, our local guide, will take you on an unforgettable journey to Mpame village He will show you how the Xhosa families live, take you for a drink in the local shebeen, climb with you to the cliffs overlooking the river, walk you along pristine beaches, rolling hills and indigenous forests. Dont miss out Alternatively, theres the tour to the other side, towards Hole in Wall. Explore the caves alonge the rocky shores, clamber over the jagged cliffs and find niches and crevices in the rocks filled with sparkling shimmering shells and colorful rocks, pools and puddles filled with sealife and maybe youll even get to see some bats in one of the caves And finally theres the famous Hole in the Wall to admire … Lubanzi Backpackers is halfway between Bulungula and Coffee Bay and on the former Wild Coast Meander. Up a grassy hill, down a steep slope, onto a deserted beach, across a river, through indigenous forest, past cows and sheep and goats, over the rocks, and up the hill again… For dedicated hikers we recommend Peter Slingsbys Wild Coast Map – it shows you all you need to know. Enjoy the walk
