The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) successfully hosted a Charity Hike for Rhinos on 2 November 2024 at Island Nature Reserve in Nelson Mandela Bay—the initiative aimed to raise funds to support rhino protection efforts in the Eastern Cape.
Hikers enjoyed the renowned Green Flag-status Bushbuck Trails, which cater to all fitness levels, from young adventurers to older people. These trails offered participants breathtaking coastal views, towering Yellowwood and Milkwood trees, and the chance to encounter local wildlife such as vervet monkeys, duikers, and bushbucks. For the fortunate few, sightings of porcupines, bushpigs, and even caracals added an extra thrill to the experience.
This event highlighted ECPTA’s commitment to wildlife conservation and allowed nature enthusiasts to contribute meaningfully to protecting one of the region’s most iconic species.
