The Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism Agency (ECPTA), in partnership with Buffalo City Tourism, kicked off Tourism Month with a two-day media tour that gave journalists an immersive taste of the province’s diverse attractions.
The tour began at The Hero Park along the Esplanade, where the group explored the site’s symbolic tribute to struggle heroes and its role in preserving history. From there, they visited The Art Versatile Afrika, a creative hub celebrating local talent through contemporary African art. A stop at the Duncan Village Heritage Museum offered a touching look into the township’s past, honouring the resilience of its communities.
The experience shifted to leisure and flavour with a craft tasting at Table 58 Brewery, before a refreshing beach walk along Nahoon, known for its surf culture and sweeping coastline. In Mdantsane, South Africa’s boxing capital, the group toured boxing heritage sites that highlight the township’s legacy of producing world-class champions. The adventure concluded with kayaking and quad biking on the Wild Side of Mdantsane.
This media tour set the stage for the official Eastern Cape Tourism Month launch on 28 August 2025, reinforcing the province’s positioning as a destination that blends heritage, culture, adventure and leisure into an unforgettable travel experience.
The activation also aimed at supporting ECPTA’s dual mandate of conservation and destination development by stimulating responsible travel to provincial attractions, spreading demand beyond traditional hotspots, and showcasing culture-rich townships alongside nature experiences. It helps convert awareness into visits that sustain jobs and SMMEs in the visitor economy, while building pride in local heritage sites.
The media tour also advances agency outcomes such as growing verified media value, strengthening positive sentiment for the Eastern Cape brand, and driving multi-channel content that points audiences to visiteasterncape.co.za and partner offerings.
