ECPTA Participates in the Eastern Cape Green Tourism Workshop

ECPTA took part in the Eastern Cape Green Tourism Workshop held at Hemingways in East London. The workshop brought together tourism operators, conservationists and government representatives to discuss how the province can transition towards a greener tourism economy.

A major theme was the Climate Change Act 22 of 2024 which introduces responsibilities for the tourism sector including emissions tracking, adaptation planning and investment in environmentally responsible technologies. Presenters outlined how changing climate patterns such as rising temperatures, prolonged drought cycles and increased wildfire risk are affecting nature based tourism experiences in the province.

Participants explored renewable energy integration, better waste management systems, biodiversity protection and resource efficient operational models. The workshop positioned the Eastern Cape as an active contributor to national green tourism efforts and highlighted the need for climate resilient reserves and communities.
