ECPTA STREGHTHENS FOCUS ON TOURIST GUIDING

The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) reinforced its commitment to professionalising the tourism sector during the two-day Tourism Imbizo, held in Nelson Mandela University in mid-September 2025.

Delivering an insightful session on Tourist Guiding, ECPTA’s Tourism Development Manager, Duma Maqubela, unpacked the critical role of guiding in enhancing visitor experiences and safeguarding the province’s reputation as a world-class destination.

“Guides are the face of our tourism sector. They do not only share information but connect travellers to the lived realities, traditions, and identity of our province,” said Maqubela.

He further addressed the need for professionalism and ethical conduct within the guiding profession and the importance of accountability in ensuring that visitor experiences remain consistent, safe, and authentic.

“When guides uphold the highest standards, they protect both our visitors and our brand as a destination,” he added.
