The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) joined the Provincial Government in celebrating Women’s Day in Alicedale in late August 2025. Led by Premier Oscar Mabuyane, the event focused on empowering women, especially in rural and marginalised communities.
In his keynote address, Premier Mabuyane praised the support shown to women-led enterprises, highlighting that such encouragement is vital for sustainable growth. “Yet, we must do more: we need to strategically reach our rural areas with the right information and resources to empower every woman, everywhere,” he urged.
Honouring the legacy of Mama Charlotte Maxeke, the Premier reminded attendees that the sacrifices of past generations continue to inspire the important work being carried forward today. He also delivered a firm message on Gender-Based Violence: “Violence against women is treason. I call on men to step up, support their households, and ease the burden too often placed on women. At the same time, we must ensure women are elevated and empowered to take on meaningful leadership roles.”
