In an initiative that blends tourism development with community empowerment, the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA), in collaboration with Elundini Local Municipality, embarked on a mission to enrich the lives of rural women in Mount Fletcher. This training program was meticulously designed to equip these women with the necessary skills in catering and hospitality, enabling them to offer authentic homestay experiences to visitors, particularly those participating in the Freedom Challenge Mountain Bike event.
Nomfundo Zondwa, the ECPTA’s Regional Tourism Development Manager, highlighted the transformative nature of this initiative, which not only aims to enhance the participants’ service delivery but also instil a sense of pride and ownership in showcasing their cultural heritage. The training sessions covered various aspects of tourism awareness, customer care, and hospitality, ensuring these women are well-prepared to host visitors worldwide.
The ripple effects of this program are profound, extending beyond individual empowerment to foster community development and cultural exchange. As these women open their homes to visitors, they’re not just providing a place to stay; they’re offering a window into the soul of the Eastern Cape, sharing their stories, traditions, and warmth, thereby enriching the region’s tourism tapestry.
