The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) joined forces with the Provincial Government for the Women’s Day celebration, held in Misgund, in the heart of the Langkloof region, Koukamma Local Municipality, in mid-August. This important event, led by Premier Oscar Mabuyane, was a celebration and a community-centred initiative to empower women in the province, especially in rural and marginalised communities.
With a strong focus on the socio-economic upliftment of women, including the LGBTQIA+ community and women with disabilities, the celebration highlighted the Provincial Government’s commitment to fostering inclusion and advancing opportunities for all women. For ECPTA, this was a chance to showcase how tourism can serve as a vital tool for community development, offering economic benefits that extend directly to women-led households and businesses across the Eastern Cape.
The initiative brought together government officials, women’s advocacy groups, community leaders, and private sector partners, emphasising collective efforts to create tangible, lasting change for women in the province. Through platforms like this, the ECPTA continues to illustrate how tourism growth and gender empowerment go hand-in-hand, ensuring the benefits are felt by the community at large.
