EASTERN CAPE HOSTED THE 88TH PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) is a proud partner for the 88th Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Championship which took place from the 21- 24th of September 2023 at St Francis Links.

South Africa’s second oldest professional golf tournament hosted in the Eastern Cape since 2021 has lived up to its reputation, attracting an elite field competing for the prestigious trophy. The PGA Championship is the epitome of glamour, prestige, and world-class hospitality.

The PGA mission, “Touching Lives Through the Game of Golf” is well embedded into the PGA Championship making a positive impact in  society towards, social transformation, Golf development, job creation, tourism and local economic investment.

ECPTA Chief Executive Officer, Vuyani Dayimani said, “‘the Agency is mandated to promote economic growth through tourism and utilises this golf tournament , our partnership with the PGA is aimed at stimulating the Eastern Cape Province’s tourism sector and thus saving and providing much-needed jobs as the tournament will support local businesses and attract local and international visitors.”

He continued that the PGA is the most recognised and reputable golf brand in the world  and will bring a spotlight to the Eastern Cape Province and help it to reach national and international audiences affiliated with the sport.

The PGA Championship continues to provide top quality entertainment for golf enthusiasts, spectators, and hospitality guests. Eastern Province, the new home of the PGA Championship, has proven to be a perfect stage, providing a magnificent backdrop with pristine coastlines, incredible outdoor adventures, cultural heritage, and hospitable citizens.

Tournament Promoter Jimmy Headbush said, “The PGA Championship is a demonstration of a successful Private-Public partnership collaboration to benefit the community.”

“I have learnt lots of tricks and improved on my game. Being one of the 10 female players who participated and playing alongside pros like Jacques Kok was the most amazing experience ever,” said one of the ECPTA pro-am golf players, Mandilakhe Lawana.
