ECPTA CREATES SAFETY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOR TOURISTS

The Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) in partnership with the National Department of Tourism, Department of Economic Development Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Sarah Baartman District Municipality, Sunday River Valley Local Municipality and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality hosted a Tourism Safety Awareness Campaign at Peterson Junction on the 1st of September 2023.

The campaign was aimed at educating and raising awareness among motorists, tourists, passengers, and visitors to be vigilant and stay safe during the Tourism Month period.

Safety and informative brochures, pamphlets that detail safety precautions, and emergency contacts, were distributed at the event. Law enforcement agencies conducted searches that were  within their jurisdiction for tourists’ safety.

ECPTA Regional Tourism Development Manager, Duma Maqubela said the Agency collaborated with several stakeholders such as the local law enforcement agencies. “We want to make the region not only a must-visit destination but also one of the safest for tourists. The campaign focused on raising awareness about safety concerns that tourists might encounter and educating both tourists and locals on best practices to ensure a secure and enjoyable travel experience. We also want to create a more welcoming and secure environment for visitors,” said Maqubela.
