Tsolwana Nature Reserve  hosted a group of 4th-year students from the University of Fort Hare. This unique excursion provided an unparalleled opportunity for these budding environmentalists and biologists to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature and gain invaluable insights into conservation efforts in the provincial nature reserves.

The  excursion aimed to enhance student’s educational experience and expose them to fieldwork.  The students embarked on a thrilling game drive through the reserve, led by experienced rangers and had an opportunity for skinning practical.

Renowned conservationists and reserve rangers conducted informative talks, presentations, and discussions. These sessions covered topics such as wildlife conservation, habitat preservation, hunting, game farming, capture and auction and the challenges faced in protecting endangered species.

Tsolwana Reserve Manager, Khanyiso Ngwabeni said the excursion provided an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the reserve’s ecosystem and allowed students to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world situations, deepening their understanding of environmental science and conservation.

“I hope that the Interactions students had with conservationists and rangers shed light on the challenges and rewards of wildlife conservation and that this first-hand experience inspired a greater commitment to preserving natural heritage,” said Ngwabeni.

University of Fort Hare lecturer Kanyisa Jama said the field trip was a great success because of Tsolwana Nature Reserve’s dedicated and enthusiastic team members. They  enjoyed their visit and most of all, this was a great learning experience for our students.
